At Lockwood Primary, we are committed to maximising English outcomes for all students.
Our English program aligns with the Victorian Curriculum English 2.0 across the three sub
strands, which ensures students develop the essential skills needed for success in Reading
and Viewing, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

This also includes explicit teaching in Phonics and Word Knowledge.
We provide a structured and engaging English curriculum that includes:

  •  Phonics-based reading instruction – An explicit and sequential literacy approach
  •  Reading comprehension – Helping students understand, analyse, and connect withtexts.
  •  A culture of independent reading – Encouraging a lifelong love of reading.
  • Morning circle-time discussions – Encouraging active listening and respectful
conversations which aligns with our Restorative Practices 2.0 Model.

We prioritise English with a dedicated two-hour literacy block each day across every year
level focussing on English (Reading and Writing), Spelling (Phonics and Word Knowledge),
Speaking and Listening.
