At Lockwood Primary, we believe a strong foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics (STEM) is essential for preparing students to thrive in a rapidly changing
world. Through hands-on learning, inquiry-based projects and creative problem-solving, our
STEM program nurtures curiosity, builds critical thinking skills and encourages innovation
from an early age.

Mrs Hauxwell is our STEM specialist teacher. Each class attends a weekly one-hour session
of STEM education that covers the specific knowledge and skills found in the science,
technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines. Lessons also explore the
interrelationship between these areas, allowing learning to be delivered in an integrated way
for deeper engagement.

During STEM lessons, students participate in hands-on activities designed to awaken
curiosity and encourage perseverance. There is a strong focus on developing higher-order
thinking skills through collaboration, communication, research, problem-solving, critical
thinking and creativity.
